The State  Government must encourage rural sports by granting special funds, said JD(S) District President M. Sanketh Poovaiah here yesterday.

He was speaking after inaugurating the player auction for Season-2 of Kodagu Champion League (KCL) at Siddapur.

There is an urgent need for the Government to release funds for rural sports and encourage sportspersons to exhibit their talents, he said and added that City Boys Yuvaka Sangha of Siddapur has been organising the tournament to encourage talented sportspersons in rural areas.

More than 250 sportspersons were present during the auction. The Kodagu Champion League will be held for six days from Apr. 15 to 20. Sangha President Haris, Contractor T.J. Sebastian and Journalists’ Assn. President A.N. Vasu were present..
