Plea to safeguard reputation of Beauty Parlours

July 31, 2018

Sir,

This refers to the news item in SOM yesterday regarding raids on beauty parlours.

The Beauty Parlour Association of Mysore, Mandya, Kollegal, Coorg and Chamarajanagar is now 20-years-old.

Over the years we have personally visited all parlours and catalogued each and every one.We have submitted this list to the City Corporation a number of times requesting them to take heed of such parlours that are run without license and by unqualified persons. We did get a response last year from the Police after we had gone and complained about such activities. We have personally closed parlours of ill repute by staging dharna in front of them. Sadly a lot more need to be done.

License to open parlours and spas should not be issued to all and sundry. We are now in the process of registering all beauticians and helping them procure work in their localities. This will not only help them but also allow beauty parlours to hire professional people.

Certificates are issued by some recognised bodies after only a few weeks of “training”. They are issued licences with this certificate. This profession needs a minimum of 3 months of study and 1 month of training. There is a need to not only register all beauty parlours but also all beauticians. Although our Association has around 250 members there are 5 times this number who are not registered with us.

Our Association, over the years has gained a good reputation not only nationally but also internationally. We are supported by other networks like our distributors, product companies, professional trainers, etc.

All concerned bodies need to work hand in hand to safeguard the reputation of beauty parlours, spas and other such ventures. Such incidents bring ill repute to this profession, run by hard-working and sincere individuals, mostly women, who are trying to earn an honest income.
