July 15, 2022

Mysore/Mysuru: Mandi Police have arrested three persons and are on a look out for another for plotting to kill a murder convict.

Those arrested are 27-year-old Avinash alias Avi alias Soppu and 22-year-old Anand alias Gowda, residents of Kanakagiri and 20-year-old Mohammed Junaid of Mandi Mohalla. The Police are on a look out for Dileep of Mandi Mohalla, who is absconding. Those arrested had planned to eliminate murder  convict Ravi of Mahadevapura and were waiting to execute their plan, Police said.

Details: On July 13 at about 3.50 am, Mandi Police, who were on their regular beat saw a Hyundai i20 car (KA-04-MH-0651) parked near the Private Bus Stand and on looking at the car from a distance the Police observed the car occupants behaving in a suspicious manner.

The two Cops, who were on the beat called the Police Station and summoned two more Cops as a precautionary measure and proceeded towards the car during which one of the car occupants fled from the spot on seeing them. The Police, who took three more occupants of the car into their custody, searched the car and found lethal weapons such as machetes (long) in it.

The Cops then informed the matter to Inspector Raghu and took the three persons along with the car to Mandi Police Station and subjected them to interrogation during which the Police came to know that they were planning to kill murder convict Ravi and were waiting with lethal weapons as they had information that Ravi would pass by this road.

Ravi, who was convicted in a murder case, was serving jail term since nine years and following illness, he (Ravi) had obtained bail and had come out of the jail 20 days ago. After coming out of jail, Ravi had threatened to kill Avinash and hence those arrested had hatched a plot to eliminate Ravi, Police said.

While Avinash has five attempt to murder cases registered against him at Krishnaraja (KR) and Vidyaranyapuram Police Stations, Anand has three cases of attempt to murder and two cases of assault registered against him at K.R and Vidyaranyapuram Police Stations. Preliminary investigation has revealed that another arrested person Mohammed Junaid had come with those arrested as the car driver. The names of Ravi and Anand has been entered in the rowdy-sheeter list at K.R and Vidyaranyapuram Police Stations respectively.

The Police are investigating whether Dileep, who fled from the spot, has any case registered against him.
