Police await ambulance as injured woman crying for help lies on road

October 28, 2017

Mandya: The video of a grievously injured woman lying on the road crying for help, even as the Police wait for the arrival of the ambulance, has gone viral on social media.

The incident occurred on Oct. 23 near Mahadeshwarapura village in Pandavapura taluk. The public have expressed outrage at the behaviour of the Police.

Background: An unidentified vehicle hit a woman Geetha early in the morning around 5 and as a result she was found writhing in pain on the road. The public, who saw this, immediately put coconut frond around the woman to prevent running over of other vehicles on her and informed the Police.

Two Police vehicles reached the spot and instead of shifting the injured woman to a hospital in one of their vehicles, they called for the ambulance and awaited its arrival. It reached 20 minutes after the Police reached the spot.

It was a heart-rending sight to see the woman writhing in pain, as she lay helplessly in middle of the road. The images have evoked sharp reactions from the public on social media.

Later, Geetha was shifted in the ambulance to the hospital where the treatment failed and she succumbed to her injuries.

A local person had videographed the incident on his mobile and posted it on the social media, which went viral.

Only if the Police, instead of waiting for the ambulance, had shifted her to the hospital in their vehicle, probably the woman’s life could have been saved, is the talk doing the rounds among the public.
