Mysore/Mysuru: Mysuru City Traffic Police, who had temporarily suspended their drive against traffic rules offenders following COVID-19 pandemic, have commenced their drive on Saturday.

On the second day yesterday, the Traffic Cops conducted the drive at K.R. Circle, in front of Jaganmohan Palace, Santhepet, Rave Beedhi, junctions and main roads in Devaraja Traffic Police limits from 11.15 am to 2.30 pm and booked those who violated traffic rules.

During the drive, the Traffic Cops booked 37 cases against triple riders, 107 cases against those violating one-way rule and 3 cases were registered on those speaking on mobile phones while riding/ driving vehicles. A total of Rs. 76,500 fine was collected from the offenders.

Meanwhile, Devaraja Traffic Inspector Muniyappa said that riding or driving vehicles without having valid Driving Licence (DL), Insurance, jumping traffic signals and allowing minors to drive and ride vehicles could lead to accidents and added that if there is no Insurance for the vehicle, insurance amount cannot be claimed, which will lead to problems to vehicle owners and those who get injured in the accident and die.

He further said that a few youths assuming that Traffic Cops were not checking vehicles were throwing the rules in the air and riding/ driving vehicles in a rash and negligent manner causing problems to others. Hence, the special vehicle checking drives are being conducted by the Traffic Police in all Civil Police Station limits in city.
