The City Police team defeated Journalists XI by 33 runs in a 10-over a side friendly cricket match that took place at the Police Firing Range at the foot of Chamundi Hill here Sunday.
Batting first after winning the toss, the City Police team, led by NR Sub-Division ACP M. Shivashankar, scored 82 runs in the allotted 10 overs, with KR Police Inspector Srinivas top scoring with 26 runs, followed by Constable Shashikumar with 20 runs and Commissioner Dr. Chandragupta with 19 runs.
The Journalists XI, led by Ram of TV9, which began its chase of 83 runs target, started woefully losing 5 wickets in quick succession with just seven runs on the scoreboard.
However, Mohan Kayaka (MK) of Mysuru Mithra, who came to the crease as a middle order batsman, did some lusty hitting scoring 15 runs including a six and a four. But the failure of other batsmen saw the team bundled out for a paltry 49 runs, thus losing the match by 33 runs. For the Police team, Constable Shashikumar was the most successful bowler with 4 wickets.
Police Commissioner Dr. Chandragupta was adjudged ‘The Best Batsman’ and Constable Shashikumar ‘The Best Bowler.’
Mysuru District Journalists’ Association (MDJA) President S.T. Ravikumar (RK), City Police Commissioner Dr. Chandragupta and DCP Dr. A.N. Prakash Gowda gave away prizes to best performers. MDJA General Secretary M. Subramanya, City Secretary Rangaswamy (Ranganna) and others were present during the occasion.
