Poll code violation: Rs. 40 lakh cash, liquor, rice and other articles seized

Mysuru: With the Model Code of Conduct in force following the announcement of poll schedule on Mar.27, the election authorities on Sunday seized Rs. 40 lakh cash, rice, liquor and other articles that were being transported illegally.

In raids across the State on Sunday, the officials seized Rs. 40,29,537 cash, liquor worth about Rs. 4.5 lakh, rice bags worth Rs. 95,000, sarees and other dress materials worth about  Rs. 1 lakh and other articles.

The authorities have booked 12 cases in relation to violation of poll code of conduct.

A total of Rs. 22.68 crore cash and articles worth crores of rupees have been seized so far since the code of conduct came into force from Mar.27   and poll campaigns are strictly monitored keeping in line with the poll code, according to a release issued by the Chief Electoral Officer.
