State Government orders closure of all Sub-Registrar Offices

Mysore/Mysuru: Planned registration of properties? Better you postpone it by at least two weeks following the State Government’s directives for the closure of all Sub-Registrar Offices across the State till May 23.

This has come into effect since yesterday in the wake of second wave of COVID-19 pandemic which was causing record increase in Corona positive  cases and claiming lives of at least 450 people daily.

Stamp duty was one of the major revenue earners for the State exchequer along with Excise and RTO. Not bothered about revenue, the Government, in the interest of lives of people, has ordered the closing down of all the Sub-Registrar Offices all over the State till May 23. However, the employees have been asked to be present in their respective work places.

The Government’s action followed reports of crowding of people at Sub-Registrar Offices for registration of properties without following Corona Appropriate Behaviour such as wearing mask and maintaining social distance. As a precautionary  measure, it has been decided to shut those offices till May 23.

In Mysuru District, there are 14 Sub-Registrar Offices of which five are in city. Each Office has 75 staff which included Sub-Registrar, DTP Operator, Deed Writer and others.

Each office was witnessing 30-50 registrations prior to outbreak of Coronavirus. It declined to hardly 15-20 during the recent Corona Curfew. Till May 23, there will be no registration activity, said Vivek, Sub-Registrar, Mysuru North Office.

The five Sub-Registrar Offices are: Mysuru East – Dr. Raj Kumar Road, Mysuru West – near Vijayanagar Water Tank, Mysuru North – Mini Vidhana Soudha, Mysuru South – Ramakrishnanagar and at Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) Office.

Reason for closing down these offices has been mandatory signature by at least 10                    persons for each transaction. Going by that, for 20 registrations there will be at least 200 persons at one time.

Apart from this, people have to take off the mask to pose for picture that need to be carried along with property documents. They have to give thumb impression too. With possibilities of this office becoming a super spreader, it has been decided to shut the Offices till May 23.
