Powerman’s injury: Two CESC officials suspended

November 2, 2026

Mysuru: Two Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) officials, including a Junior Engineer, have been suspended over the Sept. 22 electrical accident near Jockey Quarters in Mysuru, in which Junior Powerman M. Karthik sustained serious injuries.

The suspended officials are L. Shivakumar, a Junior Engineer at the Vidyaranyapuram branch and M. Chandru, a Line Mechanic.

Karthik, a native of Nanjapura village in Hunsur taluk, was working in the CESC Vidyaranyapuram Division. He sustained severe burns after an electric shock while carrying out maintenance work at Jockey Quarters near Kurubarahalli Circle.

The accident occurred as he was climbing down an electric pole after completing the work. His left wrist was severed and he suffered severe burns to his stomach, as well as serious damage to his internal organs.

Following the incident, the CESC Managing Director constituted a three-member Fact-Finding Committee to inquire into the accident.

The preliminary inquiry found that the two officials had failed to properly supervise electrical maintenance work on a 2 KV power line and to ensure that a safety zone was created before the work began.

Following the findings, CESC has initiated disciplinary proceedings against them.

The management said, their continued service could lead to tampering with office records or to influencing or destroying evidence related to the case. They have, therefore, been placed under suspension, according to the CESC General Manager.

During the suspension period, both officials have been barred from taking up any work or business activity and have been directed not to leave their headquarters without prior permission from the competent authority.
