Mysore/Mysuru: “Writing is not merely about acknowledging readers. It is about crafting stories and novels rooted in trust and credibility through research,” said author and illustrator Preeti Shenoy.
In conversation with Geetha Kariappa, Shenoy reflected on her literary journey, emphasising that writing should inspire readers. “For me, books themselves have been the greatest source of inspiration,” she said. She noted that her story collections have found a wide readership both in India and abroad. “In the past 40 days alone, I have read 22 books. Books have been my teachers,” she remarked.
Writing, she added, has been her passion since childhood, with her father serving as her earliest inspiration. His career with Kendriya Vidyalaya involved frequent transfers, exposing her to diverse cultures and languages. As a result, she is fluent in six languages, including Malayalam, Konkani and Tamil.
Shenoy also shared that her daughter has always been her first reader and discussion partner. An environmental enthusiast, Shenoy often draws from everyday experiences, shaping her narratives around life as she sees it.
Advising aspiring writers, she stressed the importance of thorough research and wide reading before beginning to write.
