‘Present day teachers behaving like political party spokespersons’

Noted orator and humourist Prof. M. Krishnegowda, addressing the gathering at the inauguration of the new office building of Mysore University Teachers Association (MUTA), at an event organised at EMRC auditorium in Manasagangothri campus in city on Friday.

Mysore/Mysuru: Maintaining  that present day teachers are behaving like spokespersons of political parties, noted orator and humourist Prof. M. Krishnegowda bemoaned that this attitude of teachers is diminishing the dignity of the teaching fraternity.

He was speaking at the inauguration of new office building of Mysore University Teachers Association (MUTA), Teachers Day celebration and felicitation to retired Professors, at EMRC auditorium in Manasagangothri campus on Friday.

“Those who have identified themselves as writers, intellectuals, thinkers, teachers and the like, have turned out into political figures without bothering to raise their voice on behalf of the society. Those who are serving as teaching faculty have indirectly entered politics and are indulging in political affiliation instead of  getting deeply involved in their profession, which is a matter of concern,” he rued.

Stating that Governments do not consider Universities as a priority sector these days, he lamented the apathy shown by the Government in the appointment of Vice-Chancellors of Universities.

Expressing concern over diminishing patience among the younger community these days, he called upon the society to correct Gen Z, which seems to get unnecessarily provoked even over small things and issues, which can be ignored.

University of Mysore (UoM)Vice-Chancellor Prof. N.K. Lokanath, in his address, said that this is a programme where the University administration and the teaching faculty have come together.

Pointing out that the MUTA should come up with more programmes that benefit the University, he said that the UoM was ready to extend help in  that direction.

Several retired teaching faculty were felicitated on the occasion.

UoM Registrar M.K. Savitha, Registrar (Evaluation) Prof. N. Nagaraj, Finance Officer K.S. Rekha, MUTA President Prof. M.P. Sadashiva, Vice-President Prof. R. Shekar Nayak, office-bearers Prof. Rajkumar H. Gaarampalli, Prof. H.P. Jyothi, Prof. Navitha Thimmaiah and others were present.
