Preserve Mahatma’s legacy for spiritual growth: Film critic

February 15, 2020

Mysore/Mysuru: “Our society as well as our communities, today, have not recognised the importance of Gandhi’s path (Gandhi Patha), but it is very much alive and kindling the hearts of many individuals,” opined film critic N. Vidyashankar.

He was speaking at the Bahuroopi Film Festival, which has been organised as part of Bahuroopi Theatre Festival 2020 at Bhomigeeta, Rangayana premises in city yesterday.

“Gandhi’s path was ‘Raja patha’ for the country from 1910 to 1947, but now it has diluted into a number of smaller streams. Probably, even Gandhi was aware that his path might not survive the test of time in the society in the future. But, today, many individuals who have not identified themselves with any political parties or ideologies are following this path, as a personal choice,” he added.

“Gandhiji did not have good opinion about cinema and was worried about its commercialisation. He had even expressed his anguish about the technology and its impact on the society,” said Vidyashankar.

“Time has now come for us to adopt simple living or what we call as ‘voluntary simplicity’. We can certainly preserve Mahatma Gandhi’s legacy at least as an individual for our own spiritual growth,” he advised.
