Only Prime Minister can solve Mahadayi issue

September 9, 2017

Mandya: Chief Minister Siddharamaiah yesterday called upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene in resolving the Mahadayi river water sharing dispute.

Speaking to press persons on his arrival at Tubinakere Helipad near Mandya, he said that the State BJP leaders should assure the Maharastra and Goa Chief Ministers to take part in the talks to end the row. Siddharamaiah also alleged that the State BJP leaders had not met the Goa and Maharashtra CMs in this regard.

Referring to the implementation of Mahadayi Project, the CM said that the State Government has sent a CDR in this regard to the Centre and was awaiting clearance from the Centre.

Replying to a question on release of water to KRS canals, he said, a favourable decision on releasing water will be taken at ICC meeting. Replying to another question on the killing of senior journalist Gauri Lankesh, the CM said that the SIT has been constituted to probe the murder.

Stating that the investigation into the murder has been expedited, Siddharamaiah said that a decision on handing over the probe to CBI will be taken only after meeting all her family members.

BJP workers held

Even as Siddharamaiah was to take part in a number of programmes in the town, the Mandya Police took several BJP workers, who were protesting near Sir MV Statue, into custody.
