Probe begins into misappropriation of funds in Mysore University

Mysore/Mysuru: Following allegations of misappropriation of funds to the tune of Rs. 55 crore in the execution of works undertaken by University of Mysore (UoM), the Karnataka State Audit and Accounts Department at Bengaluru has begun probe into the allegations.

In a letter written to the UoM Registrar on Aug. 12, the Department has asked the University authorities to co-operate with the probe. The letter also said that the Department’s Vigilance Cell Head A. R. Parameshwarappa and Accounts Superintendent A.J. Pavithra have been tasked with the conduct of the probe and submit a report.

The Accounts Department authorities have begun scrutinising all the documents which will go on till today, following which a report will be submitted to the Government.

Former UoM  Syndicate and Senate member Dr. K. Mahadev in  his complaint to the Government, had accused the University of Mysore Vice-Chancellor, Registrar and the V-C’s Special Officer of quoting rates higher than the SR rates for execution of various civil and electrical works and purchase of some equipment for the University, which had resulted in a loss of about Rs. 55 crore to the University ex-chequer.

Mahadev had also alleged misappropriation of the University’s pension funds and in awarding  of tender for purchase of groceries.
