Prof. C.D.N. Memorial Day at Dhvanyaloka

April 17, 2017

Mysuru – Prof. C.D.N. Memorial Day was observed at Dhvanyaloka in city on Apr. 12.

Reminiscing Prof.CDN’s life and achievements, Prof. C. N. Srinath, Director, Dhvanyaloka, said Prof. CDN was not only a passionate and dedicated teacher but also an able and efficient administrator and organiser as his days in Maharaja’s College bear testimony to it.

Dr. B. Sheikh Ali, eminent historian and former Vice-Chancellor of Goa and Mangalore Universities, who was the chief guest, delivered the Memorial Lecture for 2017. Speaking on the “Philosophy of History” he enabled the audience to see how history could be looked at from a new angle. He not merely cited several instances from history but also alluded to many distinguished historians who were interested in the “what, why and how” of things that might have led to the growth and culture of societies and civilisations. This led to “speculative philosophy” of history, he concluded.

The lecture was followed by the conferring of Prof. C.D.N. Memorial Award-2017 on the distinguished writer and critic in both Kannada and English, Prof. G.S. Amur. The award consisting of a citation and shawl was received on his behalf by Prof. Gundur, Department of English, Tumakuru University owing to Prof. Amur’s inability to receive it in person.

In a noble gesture, Prof. Amur donated a cash award of Rs.10,000 to be spent towards Prof. C.D.N. Memorial activities.

The programme concluded with the release of Prof. C.N. Srinath’s English translation of K.V.Iyer’s immortal work Roopadarshi by Prof. Sheikh Ali.

Prof. K.M.Chandar, formerly of the Department of English, University of Mysore, spoke on the translated version. Two other works that were also brought out on the occasion were Dhvanyaloka Reports (2017-2016) by Dr. Ragini Ramachandra and Dhvanyaloka Quarterly, The Literary Criterion. K. Vidyashankar, senior journalist and a friend of Dhvanyaloka, came from Bangalore to felicitate Prof. Srinath for his translation work which involved bringing to light classics from Kannada to English.
