Prof. CDN Memorial Day at Dhvanyaloka

April 17, 2022

Mysore/Mysuru: The Annual “Prof. CDN Memorial Day” was organised at Sally Sage Mc Alpin Auditorium in Dhvanyaloka on Bogadi Road on Apr.12 .

The highlight was “CDN Memorial Lecture” and conferment of “CDN Memorial Award”, both instituted in honour of this outstanding scholar-teacher who did yeoman service to the cause of Literature in various capacities during his long, illustrious life.

Prof. C.N. Srinath, Director, Dhvanyaloka, noted how even when the event was observed as “Memorial Day”, it was in actuality an “auspicious” day for everyone gathered there. It was auspicious because we were in fact “celebrating” the great achievements of a distinguished teacher, he said.

The Memorial Award carrying a shawl, a memento, a citation and a cash of Rs.10,000 was conferred on Prof. Bijay Kumar Das, former Professor of Burdwan University, who has established himself as a reputed scholar, teacher, critic, editor and organiser of hundreds of seminars and conferences.

Following the felicitation ceremony was the Book Launch of two of Dhvanyaloka Publications:  1) The Literary Criterion (a Critical Quarterly) and 2) In An Ant…ique Land and Other Essays by Ragini Ramachandra (Text) & S. Ramachandra (Photographs).

The Memorial Lecture delivered by Prof. Das was on “Rethinking Sitayana: A Transplant from the Ramayana”. It was a critical appraisal of Prof. K.R. Srinivasa Iyengar’s work titled “Sityana: Epic of the Earth-born.”
