Prof. CDN Memorial Day held at Dhvanyaloka

April 15, 2018

Mysuru:  Padma Bhushan Prof. CDN Memorial Day was held at Sally Sage McAlpin Auditorium, Dhvanyaloka, Bogadi Road here on April 12.

Prof C.N. Srinath, Director, Dhvanyaloka, who welcomed the gathering consisting of Prof. C.D. Narasimhaiah’s students, colleagues, friends, admirers and well-wishers, recalled CDN’s life and achievements.

The Memorial Lecture on Alfred Korzybski, the distinguished Polish-American thinker, philosopher, linguist whose 800-page monumental work on the metaphysical aspects of language presents his striving for “a better human behaviour and better world”, was delivered by Dr. TRS Sharma, eminent scholar, teacher and critic.

The hour-long lecture supplemented by illustrations was highly revealing as the speaker focused on a hither-to unknown celebrity who dwelt on various gradations of consciousness covering all three, plant, animal and human worlds.

This scholarly and intellectually stimulating talk was followed by a brief question and answer session when thinkers like Sri Aurobindo and Ananda Coomaraswamy were invoked.

Dr. Sharma, who was felicitated after the lecture, was also honoured with “CDN Memorial Award for 2018” carrying a citation and a cash of Rs.10,000.

The other highlight of the programme was the release of three of Dhvanyaloka Publications by the distinguished couple A. Madhavan, former Indian Diplomat and Girija Madhavan, an accomplished artist and columnist. The books released were The Literary Criterion (2018), English Kavithegalu, a Kannada translation of some major English poems by C.N. Srinath and Glimpses of Sri Lanka, a travelogue by Ragini Ramachandra with photographs by S. Ramachandra.
