Prof H.S. Subrahmanyam (77), former Professor of Physics, University of Mysore, passed away yesterday. He leaves behind his wife, three daughters including well-known flautist Smitha Srikiran, grandchildren and a host of relatives. Last rites were held this noon.

Prof. Subrahmanyam had served at the University of Mysore between 1962 and 1992 and had guided several Ph.D students. He had also served as the Dy. Vice-Chancellor at the University of Njoro (Kenya) and the University of Harare (Zimbabwe) between 1992 and 2000. Currently, he was the head of the Mysore unit of the BASE Educational Services Pvt. Ltd.
