Prof. Mani Mathew: A tribute

Prof. Mani C. Mathew, CEO, St. Joseph’s   Colleges,  Founder-Principal of St. Joseph’s Degree College, Jayalakshmipuram and retired Principal of JSS Degree College, Chamarajanagar, left for his eternal abode on June 1, 2019 at Kozhikode, Kerala. 

Prof. Mani was born on Oct.25, 1947. He was the youngest son of late C.A. Mathew and late Mariam Mathew. His father was the  Head Master at St. Aphraim’s School, Mannanam, Kottayam.

Prof. Mani had his early education in  Ettumanoor  and  Mannanam, Kerala. He studied BA in English Literature from St. Philomena’s College, Mysuru (1966-1969) and later pursued his PG in English from University of Mysore (1969-1971).

He started his career as lecturer at JSS Degree College, Chamarajanagar in 1971 and also worked at JSS Colleges in Nanjangud and Mysuru. He guided the Colleges to secure NAAC accreditation. Prof. Mani retired as Principal of JSS Degree College, Chamarajanagar, in 2006.

Prof. Mani is also fondly remembered by his students for his affable personality, generosity, lively and informative classes. He had recently instituted an ‘Annual Endowment Award’ for St. Joseph’s Degree College, Jayalakshmipuram, to award the students securing highest marks in University exams.

He is survived by his wife Prof. Susamma Chacko  (retd. Professor of Economics, JSS Group of Institutions), two  sons (Abhay and Ajay), daughters-in-law  (Anju and Preethi) and grandchildren (Diya, Ria, Sheryl and Michelle).

Last rites: Arrangements for last respects are made at his son’s (Dr. Abhay) residence in Chevayur, Kozhikode, on June 4 between 4 pm and 7 pm. Funeral will be held on June 5 at 11 am at St.Thomas Church, Pallikkunnu, Ettumanoor, Kottayam.
