Prof. K. Chidananda Gowda delivers Convocation address at Bhavan’s Priyamvada Birla Institute of Management
Mysuru/Mysore: “Profit should not endanger the harmony among the resources of six Ms — Men, Money, Material, Machine, Management and Mother Earth,” opined Prof. K. Chidananda Gowda, former Vice-Chancellor, Kuvempu University. He was delivering the address at the Convocation of the Bhavan’s Priyamvada Birla Institute of Management (BPBIM) of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan (BVB) at its premises in Vijayanagar 1st Stage here this morning.
Prof. Chidananda Gowda observed that the aim of any business generally is to fulfil the economic goals of the management which should end in profits.
Recalling an interesting quote, he said that managing only for profit is like playing tennis with your eye on the scoreboard and not on the tennis ball.
He asserted that a good manager should have a vision with a mission focusing on planning, motivation, co-ordination and delegation to get the right feedbacks for corrective steps.
Continuing, Prof. Chidananda Gowda said that the art of management now faces the problem of linking self, society and nature. However, he pointed out that the management concepts could differ among countries but the ultimate result is same. He emphasised that a good management should familiarise with human needs and motives.
BPBIM Chairman N. Ramanuja presided. BPBIM Resident Director Dr. A.V. Narasimhamurthy, BPBIM Director Dr. A.T. Bhashyam and BVB Hon. Secretary P.S. Ganapathy were present on the occasion.
Post-Graduate Diploma in Management certificates were presented to 90 candidates, 42 of whom were awarded medals of excellence.
