Proposed Disneyland at KRS: An architect’s views

Sir,

As an architect and an ardent Mysurean, I am appalled at the proposal to set up a Disneyland- like Amusement Park at Brindavan Gardens in KRS, including a 350 ft. tall statue of Mother Cauvery and a Museum Complex.

Brindavan Gardens, today, is a part of Mysore folklore from films to fiction to fun-filled evenings. The image of Brindavan Gardens to all of us, especially me at 65 years of age, is a beautifully laid out serene gardens with the tinkling sound of water and a prayer to G.H. Krumbiegel, who created this marvel.

World over cities are trying to preserve such heritage spaces and we are determined at a great expense to ruin it.
My proposal is that, create a day-long tourist package starting with Ranganathittu, Srirangapatna and culminating at Brindavan Gardens in the evening. This will add to the wonderful tourism packages already existing in and around Mysuru.

However, if the government is still adamant about Karnataka Disneyland, let them utilise the land proposed for the Film City Project at Himmavu near Nanjangud as the project has now been abandoned. I am confident that the government will be able to find more land in this area to create this Amusement Park.

I am sure that people will agree with me that the evening prayers to Goddess Cauvery at Brindavan Gardens today, makes you feel blessed and happy that we took time off from our busy schedule to visit this wonderful Garden.

I pray that the authorities concerned talk to the people of Mysuru and Mandya before going ahead with such a major project.
