Mysuru: In response to the Nationwide strike call given by the All India Organisation of Chemists and Druggists (AIOCD) and The Karnataka Chemists and Druggists Association (KCDA), in protest against online sale of medicines and to press for fulfilment of various demands, all medical shops will observe a one day bandh in the city on May 30 (Tuesday).
Announcing this at a press meet at Patrakarthara Bhavan here yesterday, The Mysuru District Chemists and Druggists Association (MDCDA) Secretary K.Manjunath said that all pharmacies and medical shops in the city will be closed between midnight of May 29 and midnight of May 30.
Detailing the reasons for the May 30 bandh call, Manjunath said that their main demands included a complete stop to online business by e-Pharmacies which are carrying out sales in violation of the provisions of Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, dispensation of medicines only under the supervision of a Pharmacist, stern measures to prevent narcotic and psychotropic medicines falling into the hands of young people, ensuring availability of life saving drugs in the rural areas and elimination of confusions in the renewal of pharmacy licences among others.
Manjunath sought the co-operation of the public and patients for the bandh, which is called for fulfilment of their just demands.
He further said that pharmacies attached to hospitals and nursing homes have been exempted from the bandh in order to meet emergency situations.
A signature campaign will be launched in front of Mahatma Gandhi’s bust near Law Courts complex at 10 am on May 30, he added.
MDCDA President K.V. Prakash and Treasurer U.S. Harish were present.
Only those medical shop owners who have never purchased and who are here onwards firm on not buying online any electronic and domestic product are morally correct on going for bandh

I Support the Chemists and Druggists Decision…Drugs should be sold only by authorized Pharmacist as prescribed by doctor…
Online business will cause confusion and where is authorization of drugs from doctor in online business??
So it will cause lots of confusion and issues among patients.
