Protests galore in Mysuru

Mysuru: It was a day of protests in city this morning as several activists staged demonstrations on different issues at different venues. While the BJP activists protested at Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple against the killing of fellow party worker Santhosh, Socialist Unity Centre of India staged a demonstration at Gandhi Square in protest against the Centre’s move to allow 100 percent FDI.

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) staged a demonstration in front of the DC Office in protest against rising prices of fuel and other essential commodities while Karnataka Rajya Nayakara Hitharakshana Vedike staged a demonstration in front of the DC Office demanding fulfilment of their various demands.

Earlier, the BJP had planned the protests at Gandhi Square but had to switch the venue to Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple as the Police denied permission. BJP activists demanded NIA probe into the murder of Santhosh in Bengaluru.

Twenty-eight-year-old Santhosh, a BJP worker, was stabbed to death by a group of four people in JC Nagar in north Bengaluru on Wednesday night, when he was putting up buntings for the BJP’s Parivartana Rally, scheduled to be held in the city on February 4.

Addressing the protesters, City BJP President Dr. B.H. Manjunath sad that the Congress government led by Siddharamaiah was systematically eliminating BJP and RSS workers and as a result, over 25 party workers have been murdered in Karnataka since Siddharamaiah came to power in 2013.

SUCI protest

Over 25 activists of Socialist Unity Centre of India (SUCI) staged a demonstration at Gandhi Square in protest against the Centre’s move to allow 100 percent FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) in single brand retail business.

Maintaining that 100 percent FDI in single brand retail business poses a serious threat to the livelihood of lakhs of small traders and street vendors, the protestors urged the centre to drop the move as it was against the interest of the nation and also render crores of people jobless.

BSP demonstration

In another protest, over 25 workers of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) staged a demonstration in front of the DC office against rising prices of fuel and other essential commodities.

Nayakas demand facilities

In yet another protest, Nayaka community members, under the banner of Karnataka Rajya Nayakara Hitharakshana Vedike, staged a protest in front of the DC office demanding fulfilment of their various demands.

The demands included establishment of a separate ministry for scheduled tribes, ST community reservation hike from the existing 3 percent to 7.5 percent, installation of Valmiki statue in city, setting up of ST women hostels at all taluk centres, and allotment of 5 acres of land for establishment of Valmiki Mutt. Vedike office-bearers Dyavappa Nayaka, Annaiah Swamy, Mahesh led the protest.

South Western Railway Mazdoor Union

The members of South Western Railway Mazdoor Union staged a protest in front of the Railway DRM office demanding revisision of minimum wages from Rs. 18,000 and fitment factor from 1.1.2016.
