Mysore/Mysuru: Swarasankula Sangeetha Sabha, Mysuru, has organised the following concerts as part of Pt. Ramarao V. Nayak Memorial Hindustani Classical Music Programme at Ganabharathi in Kuvempunagar here on Nov. 15:
5.30 pm: Harmonium Solo by Ravikumar Rajanakoluru accompanied by Shekar Rabakavi on tabla (students of Sri Veereshwara Punyashrama, Davangere).
6.30 pm: Vocal concert by Mukul Kulkarni (Pune) accompanied by Veerabhadraiah Hiremath on harmonium and Ramesh Dhannur on tabla.
PROFILE
Disciple of Pandit Arun Kashalkar and Pandit Sharad Sathe, Mukul Kulkarni is a Hindustani classical vocalist of the Gwalior-Agra Gharana.
Mukul is a Top Grade artiste of All India Radio. He started learning Hindustani classical vocal at the age of 10. His initial training started under the guidance of Nishikant G. Paramane.
While pursuing his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mukul then picked up nuances of music under the guidance of Sukhada Kane, Kolhapur.
After his graduation, Pandit Vikas Kashalkar of Gwalior Gharana took Mukul under his tutelage. Under his guidance, Mukul completed his Master’s degree in Music from University of Pune.
Mukul has been awarded a Gold Medal. He has also received rigorous taleem from late Pandit Sharad Sathe on traditional compositions of ‘Gwalior Gharana’.
From this taleem, Mukul has gained a large repertoire of traditional old khayal bandishes of the Gwalior gharana as well as Tapkhayal, Tappa & Tarana.
Presently, Mukul is receiving taleem under the watchful eyes of Pandit Arun Kashalkar of Gwalior-Agra Gharana.
Mukul has travelled extensively in India and abroad for his vocal performances. He has performed in major cities and received a wide acclaim from his tours to the UK since 2013.
Mukul has been awarded a ‘Top Grade’ in Hindustani Classical Vocal for (Khayal) by All India Radio in 2024 (Central Audition Board, New Delhi).
Mukul feels fortunate to have composed and sung a few of the Bhakti Padas (Devotional compositions) of Shri Swami Narayan Sampraday. Some of the Bhakti Padas are released on the YouTube channel Karu Vandana.
For the past few years, Mukul Kulkarni has been imparting Hindustani classical vocal lessons to University students in Pune and a few serious students of music online.
