PU College students take part in voter awareness contests

Mysore/Mysuru: Students from different PU Colleges of the city took part with enthusiasm in the various contests organised as part of voter awareness campaign at Maharaja’s PU College on JLB Road in city yesterday. It was organised by Voters Literacy Club of Maharaja’s PU College.

Speaking after inaugurating the contests, Maharaja’s PU College Principal Udayashankar said that the Indian Constitution has given the voting rights to all those who are aged 18 years and called upon the youths to exercise their franchise with freedom. He further said that the contests are being organised to create awareness on the importance of voting in a democratic country like ours.

Voters Literacy Club Convenor Dr. Mangala Murthy said that the Election Commission has started activities such as voters’ list revision, change of address, voters’ list correction etc., in the wake of Lok Sabha and Local Bodies Polls. She called upon all students who attain 18 years of age, to register their names.

Prize winners of various competitions are as follows:

Poster Competition: 17 students from 10 PU Colleges had taken part. R. Gagana (Maharani’s College) – 1st prize; S. Rakshita (Vani Vilas College, Nazarbad) – 2nd; N. Sangeetha (JSS Women’s College, Saraswathipuram) – 3rd.

Kannada Essay Writing: 21 students from 11 Colleges had take part. Nityashri (PU College for Girls on Chamaraja Double Road) – 1st, Ankitha (JSS College, Ooty Road) – 2nd; M. Mallesh (Maharaja’s PU College) – 3rd; English Essay Writing: 9 students from 5 PU Colleges had taken part. N. Nischitha (Maharani’s PU College) – 1st; R. Srinidhi (Maharani’s PU College) – 2nd; Shubham Yadav (JSS College for Women) – 3rd.

Quiz: 28 students from 14 Colleges had taken part. H.N. Tanushri and B. Shwetha (JSS Women’s College) – 1st; Divyashri Patil and Pavithra (Government PU College for Girls in People’s Park, Nazarbad) – 2nd; S. Chinmay and Vishwas Gowda (Maharaja’s PU College for Boys) – 3rd.

Contests Organiser Dr. B. Shashikala, College Lecturers Association President M.M. Mahadev, Political Science Lecturers Association President Pashupathi, State Government Employees Association Hon. President L. Umesh, Judges Shivakumar, Lokesh, Kaliprasad, Swamygowda, Jayakumar and others were present.
