Public advised on vector-borne diseases control measures

April 25, 2021

Mysore/Mysuru: With the city and district reporting an increasing number of vector-borne diseases such as fever, dengue, chikungunya and malaria in the past few days, the District Vector-borne Diseases Control Officer Dr. S. Chidambara has appealed the public to ensure that water does not get stagnated near their houses or buildings.

In a press release, Dr. Chidambara said there is every chance that vector-borne diseases may spread further due to multiplication of mosquitoes, which breed from stagnant water. Noting that Aedes species of mosquitoes are the main spreaders of the deadly epidemic, he said that the co-operation of people is must for checking the breed of mosquitoes.

Pointing out that water collected in cement tanks, open barrels, drums, old tyres, coconut shells etc., are the breeding ground for mosquitoes, he said that water should not be allowed to stagnate at such points and elsewhere. He further said that people should take precautionary and safety measures such as use of mosquito screens  and mosquito repellents.

Advising the people not to neglect fever and other symptoms, Dr. Chidambara said that  citizens should visit a nearby Hospital in case of symptoms. Maintaining that the Health Department  has formed a Rapid Task Force to check the breeding of mosquitoes and larvae at the source itself, he said that the members of the Task Force are visiting homes. He sought full co-operation of the public in preventing the outbreak of vector-borne diseases.
