Mysore/Mysuru:  A case has been registered at Ashokapuram Police Station regarding the illegal transportation of rice meant for the Public Distribution System (PDS).

On June 28, while patrolling Jayanagar’s 2nd Main Road, Fort Mohalla Food Inspector G. Ratnammaa and K.R. Mohalla Food Inspector B.S. Venugopal noticed an auto with registration number KA-12-3267 carrying three bags of rice.

Upon inspection, they discovered that the bags contained 157.5 kg of PDS rice. However, the driver managed to escape. A case has been filed under the Karnataka Essential Commodities Act.

At Hebbal Police Station limits

In a separate incident, a case has been registered at Hebbal Police Station based on a video uploaded on social media. Assistant Director of the Food and Civil Supplies Department, U.R. Ramesh, filed the case.

The video depicted three minors purchasing PDS rice in an auto with registration number KL-05-J-9165.

When questioned, one of the boys claimed to be 19 years old while the other two admitted to being minors. It was revealed that they were buying the rice for a specific individual named Sajid from Udayagiri. Sajid allegedly paid them Rs. 200 to Rs. 300 for their efforts. The Police complaint includes all these details.

The owner of the auto, Syed Akram from Shaktinagar, has been identified by the Police. Assistant Director Ramesh has accused Syed Akram and Sajid of purchasing rice from genuine ration card holders using minors at a lower price and selling it for a profit in the black market.

The Hebbal Police have registered a case under the Karnataka Essential Commodities Act.
