The Government has been promoting cleanliness and hygiene through the Swachh Bharat Mission. While considerable efforts are made to keep our streets and public places clean, equal attention must be given to maintaining cleanliness inside Government offices, public institutions and hospitals.

A visit to many public offices, including the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Taluk Offices, Mysuru City Corporation (MCC), Mysuru Development Authority (MDA) offices and Government hospitals such as K.R. Hospital, reveals that toilets are often poorly maintained, leaking taps remain unattended and basic hygiene leaves much to be desired. Citizens who visit these offices deserve clean and hygienic facilities.

Periodic inspections by Heads of Departments and senior officers would go a long way in ensuring that maintenance issues are identified and rectified promptly. Even occasional surprise visits by the authorities concerned would instil greater accountability among those responsible for the upkeep of these public institutions.

It is often observed that whenever a VVIP visits the city, roads leading to the venue and surrounding areas receive special attention and are kept neat and clean.  While this is commendable, the same standard of cleanliness and hygiene should be maintained throughout the year, not only during VIP visits but every single day.

After all, clean public offices and hospitals are not merely a matter of appearance; they reflect good governance, respect for citizens and pride in public service.
