Put brakes on wheelie stunts, use of cellphones by riders

December 15, 2023

Sir,

This is to bring to the notice of the Traffic Police authorities about the rampant violation of traffic rules by two-wheeler riders, especially in areas like N.R. Mohalla, Rajivnagar 1st, 2nd and 3rd Stages, Udayagiri and surrounding areas.

The rules and regulations of the Traffic Police are being given two hoots by people who fearlessly and carelessly use their cellphones, sometimes with one hand and sometimes with their head tilted over their shoulder as if they are the busiest persons in the world!

According to my estimate, almost one in three two-wheeler riders are using cellphones while on the move. This violation is going grossly unchecked, thanks to no action or vigilance by the Police.

Another offence going on rampantly for sometime now is the performance of wheelie stunts and other such dangerous acts. Most of these two-wheelers have no number plates in the rear and sometimes in the front also making it impossible to capture from CCTV cameras.

Recently an innocent passer-by was killed due to such dangerous stunts. As I have observed, these acts increase to a great extent on weekends and public holidays. Many of the miscreants even look underage.

Hence I request our Traffic Police to take strict action and carry out regular vigilance where such crimes are going on so that the offenders are brought to book and the other law-abiding commuters feel safe.
