Mysore/Mysuru: Lashkar Police have arrested an employee of a private firm for pocketing over Rs. 6 lakh while segregating soiled and good currency notes at a Bank in city.

The accused has been identified as 37-year-old K.K. Nagendra, a native of Harave village in Hunsur taluk and presently residing at a rented house in Vijayanagar 2nd Stage. He has been remanded to judicial custody.

Nagendra, an employee of a private company in Bengaluru, was given the assignment of segregating soiled currency notes in the Bank. He was involved in making bundles (100 currency notes each) of good currency notes to be filled in ATM kiosks and also making bundles (1,000 currency notes each) of soiled currency notes to be sent to the RBI as per rules. There was an agreement done between the State Bank of India (Government Accounts Branch) and the private company from Bengaluru to segregate good and soiled currency notes and make bundles by using shrink wrap.

On March 28, when soiled currency note bundles were sent to the RBI, there was a shortage of 200 currency notes of Rs. 2,000 denomination totalling Rs. 4 lakh. When the staff of the private company recounted the sent currency notes on May 31, they found a shortage of Rs. 2,01,100 (35 notes of Rs. 2,000, 258 notes of Rs. 500 denomination and 21 notes of Rs. 100 denomination). In all, the staff found Rs. 6,01,100 shortage.

On examining the footage of the camera installed in the currency notes segregation room, they found Nagendra pocketing bundles of currency notes while segregating good and soiled currencies and making bundles.

The Bank Manager, who has handed over the CCTV footage to Lashkar Police, has also lodged a complaint and Lashkar Police, who have registered a case, arrested Nagendra, who has been remanded to judicial custody.
