Python, Viper rescued in city

October 30, 2026

Mysuru: In separate incidents, two snakes — a python and a viper — have been rescued in city.

In the first incident, a python (non-venomous) was rescued near the compound wall of Administrative Training Institute (ATI) near Kurubarahalli on Monday night.

Following a rescue call from a staff of ATI at about 11.15 pm, rescuer Pradeep, who rushed to the spot, found the python measuring about 7.6 ft. long near the compound. Following instruction from the Forest Department, Pradeep released the snake in a forest area.

In the second incident, a Russell’s Viper snake was rescued from the toilet commode at a house in Srirampura in city Tuesday night.

The residents of the house, who spotted the snake at about 7.30 pm in the house, called snake rescuer Shivu immediately. But when Shivu arrived at the house, the viper, measuring about 4.6 ft. long, had hid in the commode.

Shivu then used a snake hook to pull the snake out of the commode, secured it in a large plastic bottle and released the viper snake in its natural habitat.

Viper snake venom is hemotoxic. Viper bite damages blood vessel walls, causing internal and external bleeding, bruising and micro-vessel breakdown.

This causes cell membrane degradation, intense inflammation, muscle damage and swelling leading to spontaneous bleeding from the gums, nose, or eyes, low blood pressure, shock and kidney failure which is fatal.

Unlike other snakes, viper does not lay eggs but give birth to young ones.
