How long must residents suffer?

There comes a point when a bad road stops being an inconvenience and becomes a symbol of administrative failure.

The main link road through R.S. Naidu Nagar, connecting the Outer Ring Road to several important parts of Mysuru, has reached precisely that point. Where there is no road left!

What is being called a ‘road’ today is barely a road at all. The asphalt has disappeared from the road; it has shrunk to a 2-metre width. What remains is a surface of potholes, loose gravel, broken patches and uneven stretches that residents are forced to negotiate every day while commuting.

In the 21st century, in a city like Mysuru, one of Karnataka’s most prominent cities and a place that proudly speaks of its heritage, culture and quality of life, clean city, we are still forced to cry, complain and plead for something as basic as a decent road to commute on.

A basic road that people need to get to work, take their children to school, reach hospitals, run businesses and simply go about their daily lives.

A road is not a luxury; road infrastructure is not beautification. It is basic civic infrastructure.

The local MLA cannot simply leave this matter to officials. An elected representative is expected to ensure that legitimate local grievances reach the administration and result in action. If a major road in the Constituency has deteriorated this badly, residents are entitled to ask.

The local MLA and civic administration should treat this as a matter of urgency and public safety. Visit the road personally. Drive along it without an official convoy. See the condition for yourself. Talk to residents, commuters and shopkeepers.
