Rain with gale reaks havoc in Mandya

Polyhouse completely destroyed

Mandya: Heavy rain accompanied by gale has created havoc in many parts of the taluk on Thursday night with sheet roofs of many houses getting blown off and also bringing down many electric poles.

The worst hit villages were Holalu, Goravale, B. Hosahalli  and Gopalapura. Over ten electric poles near Hosahalli gate on Mandya-Melukote Road were reportedly uprooted by the gale injuring a bike rider. Obviously traffic went haywire on Holalu Road. Staff of CESC were seen clearing the fallen electric poles right from early morning yesterday and managed to restore power by evening.

Poly house destroyed: A polyhouse owned by brothers M.G. Nandish Kumar and M.G. Umesh Kumar, located near Santhemala on the outskirts of Mandya on Holalu Road is said to have collapsed owing to the nature’s fury completely destroying the carnation plants grown over an area of about 1.5 acres.

The owners said that they had obtained a loan from a bank a month ago and had set up the polyhouse spending about Rs.60 lakh with a good growth of carnation flowers. They added that the plants were ready to reap in a week when the disaster struck uprooting the support poles and roof. They have urged the District Administration to compensate their losses.
