Ramdas to lead protest against potholes on Oct. 27

October 25, 2017

Mysuru: A symbolic protest will be staged on Oct.27 by covering potholes on Sarvajanika Hostel Road and near the Silk Factory, said former Minister S.A. Ramdas.

He was addressing a press conference here this morning at the Patrakarthara Bhavan and said that MCC had failed to fill potholes even though there are more than 20,000 potholes in city.

“There are more than 40 potholes on Sarvajanika Hostel Road, which is a small stretch. Even the road from Andani Circle to Silk Factory is filled with potholes. We will cover the potholes with jelly, sand and tar,” he said.

According to Ramdas, they had protested regarding the same issue some time back and still the Government had not bothered to take any action. If it continues to ignore the problem, which is a life and death situation for the thousands of road users, then there would be no option left but to approach the courts and stop paying road taxes, he warned.

Giving out statistics, he said that from January 1 this year, nearly 578 accidents had occurred on Mysuru roads and 110 people had died, while 410 have been injured. “Just as Rs.100 crore has been sanctioned to Bengaluru to fill potholes, Mysuru should also be given a similar grant,” he demanded.

He also pointed out that private telephone companies, CESC and Water Works all dig up the roads and do not fill it up even though they have the responsibility to do it immediately. Hence, action should be taken against such bodies, he said.
