Sugama Sangeetha Academy Trust, Mysuru, the brainchild of H.R. Leelavathi and her husband late S.G. Raghuram, took its birth in Mysuru on 19.5.1985 mainly with the object of promoting light classical music based on the poems written and popularised by dozens of poets and poetesses (to name a few, Da.Ra. Bendre, Kuvempu, K.S.N.Swamy, Pu.Ti.Na., G.S. Shivarudrappa and a versatile legion thereof). She herself is a well-known singer in this hireachy and has headed the State Sangeetha Nrithya Academy for three years. With the help and assistance of a few well-known connoisseurs of art and music in Mysuru, Leelavathi is carrying on the mantle with grace and aplomb.
The Academy arranges and promotes two or three annual programmes involving and encouraging young and talented artistes in the line and this present one is based on the popular Hindu Festivals like Ugadi, Gowri-Ganesh, Sankranthi and the like.
More than a hundred artistes, children, youth and elderly will form the cast of the beautiful drama that will unfold on the stage of Nadabrahma Sangeetha Sabha on the evening (5.30 pm) of Saturday, the 15th Instant, to mesmerise the connoisseurs.
The script, elegantly prepared by H.R. Leelavathi and her senior disciples, will showcase the confluence of elderly ladies and smart kids joining the rare drama-cum-musical extravangaza along with bringing out on stage the rare features of Hindu Festivals named above. The script and the music have been elegantly planned and the kids have been given extensive training during rehearsals. Top class instrument support has also been provided.
This is certainly a rare programme being put up by the Academy and richly deserves houseful participation of the cultural fraternity of the city.
