Galaxy of Medical Doctors to present musical evening

A brainchild of the couple  H.R. Leelavathi and the late  S.G. Raghuram, Sugama Sangeetha Academy Trust was founded on 19.5.1985 with the sole purpose of promoting Sugama Sangeetha (Light Classical Music) in the city of Mysuru and also in its neighbourhood. Themselves leading artistes in the field and Leelavathi being a leading torch-bearer of this style of music with experience of more than six decades, it was not difficult for the couple to spread its wings far and wide and make a dominant name in the field.

After the demise of Raghuram, Leelavathi has taken up the mantle on her shoulders with the able support and help of a few other members of the Academy all of whom are culturally oriented and who could extend a philanthropic hand helping the Academy to grow and enabling it to make a dominant name in the land.

Every year the Academy provides three or four concerts related to Bhavageetha and other wings of light music, all of which attract hundreds of cultural literate of Mysuru. Also competitions are held regularly attracting the youngsters to participate where prizes were given.

This year, however the Academy has organised its Second Annual Concert for Doctors on June  9 (Saturday) at 6 pm in the auditorium of Nadabrahma Sangeetha Sabha on JLB Road. The programme will be “Parisara Geetha Gayana” related to environment and its development. Fittingly the chief guest for the function is the well-known environmentalist Dr. A.N. Yellappa Reddy, IFS, who is credited with notable achievements in conservation of both flora and fauna and is a                           former Chairman of State Pollution Control Board.
