Bengaluru: The Food and Civil Supplies Department has decided to call for fresh applications for issuance of APL ration cards from June. The issuance of these cards was suspended one-and-a-half- years ago due to Assembly polls and other reasons.

Now, with the Government deciding to issue new APL cards, applications can be submitted only online through the specific web portal once the Government issues an order to this effect, it is learnt.

Lakhs of people of the State were eager to apply for getting ration card for availing various benefits of schemes such as Gruha Jyothi, Gruha Lakshmi etc., that were introduced by the Congress Government after it came to power in May last year.

The Government, anticipating that there would be a stockpile of applications, had suspended online applications for getting ration cards.

But now that the Lok Sabha elections are over, the Government has decided to invite applications for ration cards.
