Reconsider one-way rule on Kalidasa Road

January 20, 2024

Sir,

Kalidasa Road stands out as a prominent commercial thoroughfare in Mysuru, particularly the segment between the Mathrumandali Circle and the Panchavati Signal. This stretch operates as a one-way for vehicles, with parking permitted only on one side of the road, facilitating a smoother bidirectional flow.

However, the one-way regulation appears to be largely disregarded by a significant number of motorists, resulting in a vexing situation for law-abiding individuals. It is noteworthy that the road from Panchavati towards Vijayanagar follows a bidirectional pattern with parking on both sides, presenting a contrast.

In the light of this, I hope that the City Traffic Police will consider revising the traffic arrangement on Kalidasa Road. The option to make the road bidirectional or to strictly enforce fines for violators could significantly improve compliance with traffic regulations.

Furthermore, with the recent widening of the road, it seems prudent to revisit the parking regulations. Allowing parking for both cars and two-wheelers on both sides of Kalidasa Road could contribute to better traffic management, preventing unnecessary disruptions caused by vehicles manoeuvring for parking spaces.

By addressing these aspects, the Traffic Police can enhance the overall traffic flow and safety on Kalidasa Road, ensuring a more orderly and efficient experience for both motorists and pedestrians.
