Recruit drama teachers for schools: Rangayana Director appeals to Minister Suresh Kumar

June 25, 2021

Mysore/Mysuru: Addanda C. Cariappa, Director of Karnataka’s most coveted theatre repertoire Rangayana, has written a letter to Primary and Secondary Education Minister S. Suresh Kumar to give priority for the appointment of drama teachers in the coming recruitment drive for the selection of teachers for primary, middle and high school in accordance with the new National Education Policy (NEP) announced by the Government of India.

Cariappa said the previous Governments had appointed drama teachers but most of them have retired. Since then those vacancies have not been filled up. The Rangayana of Mysuru has been conducting one year diploma course under the name of Bharatiya Rangashikshana Kendra, affiliated to Karnatak University, Dharwad. Thousands of students have done this diploma course. Even Ninasam, Shivakumar Ranga Prayoga Shale of Sanehalli, Ranga Shale of Kundapura and other schools were also offering diploma course in dramatics. The diploma passed students could be considered during the selection to promote art among the students.

Recently, the State Government has announced a notification for the appointment of teachers but not drama teachers. In the wake of this, the Minister must take initiative for the appointment of drama teachers for primary, middle and high school classes. This will not only help thousands of students but it will also fulfil the aspirations of National Education Policy-2020, he added.
