Reimbursement limit of State Government employees’ medical expenses increased to Rs.3 lakh

May 24, 2019

Bengaluru: The State Government has passed an order increasing the reimbursement limit of medical expenses of the State Government employees from Rs. 2 lakh to Rs.3 lakh, in the unrecognised State and outside the State private hospitals.

The medical treatment costs have gone up steeply. The treatment costs of the Govt. employees seeking medical treatment in the private hospitals, which do not have recognition of the government, has been crossing the limit of Rs. 2 lakh. There was pressure on the government to increase the reimbursement costs.

This had resulted in delay in reimbursement to the government employees which were causing them problems. In the light of this, the Principal Secretary in the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances has decided to increase the Rs. 2 lakh limit, states the order.

This order is applicable only from the date the order is passed. In the cases of the eligibility limit that crosses Rs. 3 lakh but is less than Rs. 5 lakh, the department heads will send their recommendations to the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances, which in turn will be sent to the respective department’s Principal Secretary/Secretary.

Later, the Administration Department without mechanically looking at the recommendations and seeing that there are no discrepancies in the recommendations, on a case by case basis, and only after being confirmed about the genuineness of the recommendations will have to send it to the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances again.

Similarly, in those cases where the reimbursement limit has crossed Rs. 5 lakh, it should be checked and sent to the Chief Minister through Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances, for his approval, states the order.
