Mysuru: Former Corporator SBM Manju has urged the State Government to rein in online gaming and betting racket, as many irrespective of age have fallen into the debt trap and taking the extreme step of ending their lives.
Addressing media persons at Patrakarthara Bhavana in the city yesterday, Manju said, many influenced by the popular film actors endorsing gaming and betting apps, are losing money in cricket betting. So, those promoting the illegal activities by appearing in advertisements should be booked under a criminal case. On the other hand, the casinos are paying 30% commission to encourage gambling, following which the number of people losing money in a flash, is also on the rise.
By deploying Information Technology, the Government should block such apps, following the path of former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, who in his tenure had banned single digit lottery, playwin and other forms of gambling. The State should take a cue from Telangana Government that has banned betting apps, demanded SBM Manju.
JD(S) City Working President Prakash Priyadarshan, leaders Dinesh Gowda, Narasimhe Gowda, Ramakrishne Gowda and others were present.
