Tamil version of the book ‘Vamshavruksha’ released in city

Mysore/Mysuru: The Tamil version of the book ‘Vamshavruksha,’ 51st translation of K. Nallathambi originally written in Kannada by noted littérateur and Saraswathi Samman awardee Dr. S.L. Bhyrappa was released in city yesterday.

The event, organised by Zero Degree Publishing, was held at Emerald Clark’s Inn Suits, Vishweshwaranagar and Dr. Bhyrappa released the translated work in the presence of Publishers Ramjee Narasiman and R. Gayathri. Tamil writer Pavannan was felicitated on the occasion.

In his address to the gathering, Dr. Bhyrappa emphasised that the British, in order to preserve their own autocratic rule, manipulated Indian history and philosophy. Unfortunately, for generations, Indians have been reading a distorted version of history. He stressed the urgent need for a shift towards reading and embracing the real and undistorted history on a broader scale.

Expressing delight at the translation of his work, Dr. Bhyrappa noted that while many of his books have been translated into numerous Indian languages, Tamil had been an exception until now.

He mentioned his cautious approach towards granting permission for translations, highlighting the extensive thought process involved. Dr. Chandrashekhar, a friend, approached him with the proposal to translate ‘Vamshavruksha’ and commended Nallathambi’s previous works. Dr. Bhyrappa agreed, and today, the book stands before the audience as a result of that decision.

“Earlier, to grasp Hindu laws, advocates in Courts and Judges — to deliver judgements — relied on the works of Mulla and Mulla. However, these resources offered limited insights into Hindu laws,” remarked Dr. Bhyrappa.

“Chief Justice G.K. Govinda Bhat once stated at an event in Bengaluru that by reading Bhyrappa’s ‘Vamshavruksha,’ one can readily comprehend Hindu laws. Yet, for a comprehensive understanding, one must delve into ‘The History of Dharmaśāstra’ authored by P.V. Kane. It took Kane 40 years to complete the 10-volume series,” he added.

Translator Nallathambi said that ‘Vamshavruksha’ marked his 51st translated work, and after 64 years, Dr. Bhyrappa’s masterpiece has finally been translated into Tamil. “I am delighted that Dr. Bhyrappa chose to release the book in Mysuru, the city where I received my education,” he stated.
