Mummadi remembered on his 228th birth anniversary

Mysore/Mysuru: Marking the 228th birth anniversary of Mummadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar, Maharaja’s High School and PU College Alumni Association members, staff and students offered floral tribute to the bust of the Maharaja at the College premises on JLB Road here this morning.

Speaking to presspersons on the occasion, Alumni Association President B.S. Sridhar Raje Urs said that the College building has a history of 183 years. Mummadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar had built this School to provide education to the poor.

“As many students joined the School, the High School building was extended by constructing a new building. Later, Bifurcated Government Maharaja Pre-University College was constructed by the Maharaja in Nazarbad. The century-old building has a great history and importance,” he said.

“The Maharaja’s High School and PU College building is in a dilapidated condition. Also, there is an urgent need for the restoration of all these buildings built by the Maharaja. A memorandum in this regard, seeking Rs. 1.4 crore grants, was submitted to the Government in the year 2019 but the request has not been considered till today,” he regretted and urged the Government to release the grants at the earliest.

“If the State Government fails to respond and release grants, a protest will be staged on Oct. 2 (Gandhi Jayanti day) this year in front of Mummadi’s bust,” Sridhar Raje Urs added.

Alumni Association Hon. President Dr. N. Chandrashekar, Secretary M.R. Suresh, Treasurer Rangaswamy, College Principal Uday Shankar, Vice-Principal Mahesh, staff and students were present.
