Dr. Ha.Ma. Nayak Memorial Lecture Series held

Mysore/Mysuru: “India is fast developing on almost all fronts, including Science, Technology and Research,” said former ISRO Chairman A.S. Kiran Kumar adding that the fruits of research should be used for building a valued society.

He was speaking on the topic ‘Landing on the Moon – The Challenges’ (Chandra Sparsha – Savaalugalu), at Dr. Ha.Ma. Nayak Memorial Lecture Series organised by Ha.Ma. Nayak Pratishtana at Einstein Auditorium of Physics Department, University of Mysore, Manasagangothri here on Wednesday.

Asserting that India successfully overcame the challenge on landing on moon at a lesser cost, Kiran Kumar said that after the success of the Chandrayaan-3 Mission, the entire world is watching India with wonder-struck eyes.

Pointing out that the successful launch has paved the way for further explorations and innovations in the fields of Science, Technology and Research with limited funds, he observed that experience and inevitability are the driving force for new ways for innovations and research.

Noting that it is really surprising to learn that the equipment that we used for ensuring the safety of fishermen who go deep sea fishing and the instruments to trail the fish movements, helped in the successful launch of India’s space mission, Kiran Kumar said that this shows that our thoughts are filled with values, which has kept the world guessing on India’s capabilities.

“The experience and inputs that we had during Chandrayaan-2 helped us a lot and evolve a successful technology for Chandrayaan-3. The lander used in Chandrayaan-3 was fitted with an innovative engine which was developed by using the latest technology,” he said.

Acclaimed writer and Saraswati Samman awardee Dr. S.L. Bhyrappa, who is also the Pratishtana President, said that young writers should come up with newer thoughts. Then only it will give rise for a better literature, he said adding that a scientific mindset will be of great use to writers for coming up with newer writings.

Noting that Dr. Ha.Ma. Nayak, apart from being a writer, was also very much interested in scientific advancements, he said that the late writer also guided the young students on organisational matters concerning science. “I would have been a Theoretical Physicist had I not been a writer,” he said.

He also recalled the contributions of great scientists such as Newton and Einstein. ISRO has made the country proud by its rapid strides in Space research and also succeeded in making the entire world look us at in awe, he added.

Pratishtana Secretary Prof. P. Venkataramaiah, Treasurer Dr. K. Mahadev, former Principal Panditaradhya and others were present.
