Researchers must be more creative to bring societal change: Prof. Siddegowda

Mysore/Mysuru: JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science, Ooty Road, Mysuru, in association with Karnataka State Higher Education Council (KSHEC), had organised a one-day National-level Seminar on Research Methodology recently.

The Higher Education Institutions of India have been directed by UGC to organise activities under Jan Bhagidari G20 Presidency of India. One of the themes of G20 comprises Education and Research. In this respect, the College took the initiative to organise the event.

Col. Prof. Y.S. Siddegowda, Vice-Chairman of KSHEC and former Vice-Chancellor of Tumkur University, who inaugurated the seminar, said that proper exposure is required in the knowledge century to tackle the challenges of tomorrow.

“Knowledge creation, knowledge accumulation and knowledge assimilation is possible only when innovative and creative mind is applied. Every researcher must strive hard to bring quality change and this comes only with commitment,” said Prof. Siddegowda.

“More emphasis has to be given to those areas of research which are advantageous to the society at large,” he said and called upon the young researchers to develop curiosity and involve in innovative works.

Prof. Siddegowda also recalled his association with JSS institutions for more than 35 years.

Prof. B.V. Sambashivaiah, Chief Executive of the College, highlighted the milestones of the College and said that a good research methodology is a key to sound research output. To operationalise the vision, there is need to train, reorient and reactivate the research scholars on research methodology.

Presiding over the function, Prof. D. Anand, Director, College Development Council, University of Mysore, explained that the topics chosen for the seminar are very appropriate to bring quality in academic research.

He said that “the research is nothing but searching for truth and facts and the knowledge is like riding a bicycle that needs continuous pedalling.”

The seminar featured different Technical Talks by resource persons from various organisations Prof. M.P. Vijayendra Kumar, Principal, welcomed. Sannidhi and team rendered invocation. Dr. N. Rajendraprasad, IQAC Coordinator and Organising Secretary, compeered and proposed a vote of thanks.
