Sir,
I was very happy to see the traffic signal lights functioning regularly at Akka Mahadevi Road Junction after being inactive for over a year.
However, my joy seems to have been short-lived, as all the signal lights have now been switched off — except for the amber lights, which blink intermittently — after having worked perfectly for about two weeks.
Even the pedestrian signal lights have been turned off, leaving pedestrians at the mercy of motorists, who hardly slow down at the junction to allow safe crossing.
Both motorists and pedestrians felt safe when the lights were fully operational and everyone was diligently following the traffic rules. It is hard to understand why the other lights have been switched off. The blinking amber lights offer little practical benefit under the current conditions.
I strongly urge the authorities concerned to restore the traffic signal lights at the earliest, before any untoward incident occurs.
