Resume city bus services stopped during COVID-19

October 30, 2024

Sir,

I am a daily commuter on the Mysuru City Transport buses. I wish to bring to your attention that several bus services, halted five years ago due to COVID-19 pandemic, have still not resumed. The discontinued services include:

• 10A (Kuvempunagar Depot): J.P. Nagar Last Bus Stop to L&T, via Chamundipuram, Ramaswamy Circle, Dasappa Circle, Vontikoppal.

• 11R (Kuvempunagar Depot): J.P. Nagar Last Bus Stop to City Bus Stand, via Chamundipuram, Railway Station, K.R. Hospital, Sub-Urban Bus Stand.

• 11R (Sathagalli Depot): J.P. Nagar Last Bus Stop to City Bus Stand, via Chamundipuram, Railway Station, K.R. Hospital, Sub-Urban Bus Stand.

• 11RG (Kuvempunagar Depot): Gurur Ring Road to City Bus Stand, via St. Thomas School, Ramanuja Road, JSS Hospital.

• 62RJ: J.P. Nagar Last Bus Stop to Vivekananda Nagar.

• 15 & 15A (Bannimantap Depot): J.P. Nagar Last Bus Stop to B.M. Srinagar.

• Routes 11C, 72, and 135 (Kuvempunagar Depot) and two Volvo buses previously departing at 8.30 am and 8.45 am from J.P. Nagar Last Bus Stop to Srirangapatna.

The unavailability of these essential services has been a daily struggle for commuters, including office-goers and students, who find it challenging to reach their destinations on time. Despite holding monthly passes, we are often forced to hire autos at our own expense. Students are also facing similar difficulties.

Moreover, buses departing from J.P. Nagar Last Bus Stop are usually full and often do not stop at Goblimara. There is a pronounced shortage of buses in J.P. Nagar and other localities between 8.30 am and 9.30 am.

In the interest of the general public, I request you to kindly:

• Resume the operation of the above-mentioned bus services at the earliest,

• Implement ITS boards displaying bus arrival times at all stops.

• Reinstate the SMS service to 161, providing bus arrival information via bus stop codes.
