Retain the name ‘Princess Road’ for the sake of antiquity

March 3, 2025

Sir,

I have read all the reports you have made on Princess Road renaming issue. I can only request you to continue to support the voices that are fighting to retain the name Princess Road, for the sake of antiquity and memory.

Accordingly I express as follows: Ironic reality of our democracy.

When the people’s representatives and the government missionary turn blind, mute and deaf to the representations, demonstrations, appeals and voice of its own people, the stinging realisations dawn on the people.

We are today witnessing such a situation in Mysuru, where the people of Mysuru have vociferously voiced their objections, resentments and abhorrence to audaciously tabled renaming of ‘Princess Road’ to new                           name ‘Siddaramaiah Arogya Marga’, the government seems undeterred.

Unfortunately, the government officials responsible for Mysuru City, who claimed unavailability of documentary records or evidence as to the name ‘Princess Road’, are unable to defend their stance against the various documents presented thus far including Maps published by both State and Central governments, postal envelops, etc., by the people of Mysuru.

For the people of Mysuru who have been the beneficiaries of the welfare-oriented, democratic administration and policy-making of their King, where their voices were not only heard but their pleas addressed, problems resolved and their welfare being taken care in advance by the King’s administration, this action of the government is repugnant.

With this, I appeal the officials concerned or the Chief Minister himself to intervene. Let the name Princess Road shine, marking the history of the region, memories of the time and sentiments of people.
