Mysuru: State Government has approved the construction of retaining wall around Kapila River at a cost of Rs. 70 crore and also for establishing Trauma Care Centre at a cost of Rs. 10 crore at Nanjangud Taluk Hospital, said MLA Darshan Dhruvanaryan.

Speaking to media persons in Nanjangud yesterday, Darshan said the retaining wall will be constructed to prevent flooding near Srikanteshwara Temple and surrounding residential areas and submerging of Sri Parashurama Temple on increase of water level in the river.

We had requested the State Government for the release of funds for which Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, who is also the Minor Irrigation minster, responded positively and released Rs. 70 crore for the construction of retaining wall from Travellers Bungalow till Sri Parashurama Temple along with a walking path, he said.

Rs. 10 crore for Trauma Care Centre

There has been a long pending demand to establish a Trauma Care Center in Nanjangud with two national highways – Mysuru to Ooty and Bagalkot to Chamarajanagar – passing through the temple town. The number of accidents was also on the rise with 336 cases of serious injuries and 120 casualty cases being reported in all four Police station limits of the town.

“People had been demanding for Trauma Care Centre to prevent casualties and provide emergency treatment during the golden hour. Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao has promised to release Rs. 10 crore to each taluk in both Mysuru and Chamarajanagar districts to establish Trauma Care Centers with all necessary facilities for which the works are expected to commence at the earliest,” he added.

Compensation to farmers

MLA Darshan Dhruvanarayan said Revenue Minister Krishna Byregowda had also promised to release compensation for farmers who had suffered crop loss owing to heavy rains.

He said during the recently held Assembly session, Revenue Minister was asked about the release of compensation for the farmers in Nanjangud taluk. While, 222 farmers had registered for the compensation, only 82 farmers had received the compensation amount.

In his reply, the Minister has promised to release compensation to the remaining 140 farmers, Darshan Dhruvanarayan added.
