Revamp Traffic Advisory Committee

June 4, 2018

Sir,

Often I read in newspapers that certain fatal accidents kill the two-wheeler rider or the pillion for not wearing helmet or poor quality helmet.

I wonder, why the Traffic Police and media are insisting only on wearing of helmets? Why don’t the authorities educate the people as to how to drive in a single road, ring road in six lanes, double track roads etc.

In most of these accidents, one can see the age group normally in the range of 18 to 28 to 30 years.  This is the age group where the children/youth with hot blood are having various dreams, visions and being shattered for their impatient move or reckless driving.

Police should arrange frequent camps at all colleges/institutions through powerpoint presentations, how to drive on these roads, road sense, giving way to heavy vehicles, obeying traffic signals, following lane discipline, parking culture, avoiding no entry roads, negotiating road humps, right turns at prime junctions etc.

The Traffic Advisory Committee may be upgraded and revamped with traffic experts to counsel and educate these masses. Just imagine the plight of parents whose children die in ghastly accidents?

I fully agree your argument, but then as long as the corruption is involved, its hard to educate. Every Tom & Jerry are issued with the Driving Licences, without knowing the traffic rules. If this tightened with immediat effect , perhaps chances for next decades.
